Job Description
Under executive direction, performs highly responsible administrative and supervisory work involving the overall management and supervision of the Fire Department. Employee is responsible for establishing and implementing departmental goals and objectives, managing and coordinating all administrative aspects of the department, and supervising and directing departmental personnel to achieve effective operational organization, and to prevent and minimize injury and/or the loss of life and property in emergency and fire situations. In addition, employee has considerable responsibility in working with other municipal and county governments in developing and monitoring inter-local agreements, grants, and emergency management plans. Employee works in accordance with departmental directives and is expected to exercise considerable independence and initiative.
Directs, plans, organizes, and implements activities and programs in the Fire Department; directs all staff and training procedures to achieve effective operational organization, and to prevent and minimize injury and/or the loss of life and property in emergency and fire situations. Directs a staff of professional, technical, and support employees engaged in all phases of the operations and administration of fire prevention, fire inspection, and fire activities/programs for the City. Plans and directs the development and implementation of service/supply programs to maximize the lifetime of equipment and facilities acquisitions; evaluates the need for purchase of new apparatus and supplies. Directs the inspection of buildings and other properties for fire hazards and the enforcement of fire prevention ordinances and laws. Develops, proposes, and administers departmental budget consistent with the City's goals and objectives, ensuring compliance with financial management policies and procedures of the City. Advises the City Manager regarding public safety issues; attends staff, task force, and special meetings as part of City management team. Evaluates, plans, and implements fire protection training needs. Promotes fire protection and communications through publications, reports, and media to increase public awareness. Directs records maintenance of Fire Department in accordance with modern fire practices. Performs related work as necessary.

Requirements: F-103.3 Certification of Fire Marshal/Fire Code Official; State certified Fire Inspector; Florida certified Firefighter; One of: (1) Engineer and/or degree in Fire Science/Fire Prevention plus 3 years County/City Fire Inspector experience in Florida; (2) 5+ years County/City Fire Plans Examiner experience in Florida; (3) 10 years Fire Inspector experience in Florida with 5+ years in FFPC jurisdiction; (4) 5 years continuous service as Fire Marshal/Fire Code Official in Florida; (5) State Fire Marshal certification as Fire Code Manager/Administrator (NFPA 1037) plus 6 years experience as plans examiner/inspector in Florida; (6) 3 years Broward County Plans Examiner experience plus NFPA CFI-1, CFPE, and CFPS certifications; Broward County Certification required
Salary: $84,833.00 - $106,786.00 Annually
