FireJobs (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates firejobs.com, a job board platform for firefighter and fire service employment. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information about you when you use our website and services. By using FireJobs, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Name and email address when creating an account
  • Payment information when purchasing a subscription (processed by Stripe — we do not store raw card data)
  • Job alert preferences and saved listings
  • Any information you submit through support requests or contact forms

Information collected automatically:

  • Log data including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps
  • Device information (operating system, screen size, browser version)
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 6)
  • Referring URLs and search terms used to find our site

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Process subscription payments and manage billing through Stripe
  • Send job alert emails based on your saved preferences
  • Deliver account-related transactional emails (receipts, password resets, subscription notices)
  • Personalize your experience and surface relevant job listings
  • Respond to customer support requests
  • Monitor and improve the performance and security of our platform
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: We share data with trusted third parties that help us operate our service, including Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payment processing), and Vercel (hosting). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FireJobs, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: If FireJobs is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.
  • With your consent: We may share information with your explicit permission for purposes not described in this policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or accounting purposes (typically up to 7 years for payment records).

Job alert preferences and saved listings are deleted immediately upon account deletion. Aggregate, anonymized data (such as usage statistics) may be retained indefinitely.

6. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and analyze how our site is used. Specifically:

  • Authentication cookies: Set by Supabase to maintain your login session. These are strictly necessary and cannot be disabled.
  • Preference cookies: Remember your saved settings and job alert preferences.
  • Analytics: We may use anonymized analytics to understand how visitors use the site. These do not identify you personally.

Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Disabling authentication cookies will prevent you from staying signed in.

7. Email Communications

By creating an account, you may receive transactional emails such as subscription receipts, password reset links, and account notifications. These are required for service operation and cannot be opted out of while your account is active.

Job alert emails are sent only if you configure them in your dashboard. You can disable or delete job alerts at any time in Dashboard → Alerts. You may also unsubscribe via the link in any alert email.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including TLS encryption for data in transit, row-level security policies in our database, and access controls limiting which staff can access user data. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe and are never stored on our servers.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your FireJobs account and to contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

9. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Update inaccurate information through Dashboard → Settings
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Opt-out of marketing: Unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • The right to delete your personal information (with certain exceptions)
  • The right to opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell personal information
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights

FireJobs is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. 12. Third-Party Links

Our platform contains links to fire department websites and job application portals that are not operated by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated “Last updated” date, and by sending an email to registered users when changes are significant. Your continued use of FireJobs after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
