Firefighter Paramedic Jobs, explained
- How many firefighter paramedic jobs are open in Illinois?
- 41 paramedic postings are open right now at 36 departments in Illinois on FireJobs. Members see the salary, closing date and application link for each.
- Do firefighter paramedics earn more than firefighters?
- Usually yes. Most departments pay a paramedic stipend or a separate paramedic pay grade on top of firefighter pay, commonly 5 to 15 percent, and some hire paramedics at a higher step. Postings on FireJobs that publish both figures show the difference.
- Can I get hired as a firefighter paramedic without the paramedic license?
- Some departments hire EMTs and sponsor paramedic school after the academy, usually with a commitment to stay for a set number of years. Others require the license on application day. The posting states which; the ones that sponsor training are worth prioritising if you are not yet licensed.
- What certifications do paramedic postings ask for?
- A state or NREMT paramedic license is the baseline. Most fire-based postings also require Firefighter I or II, or offer an academy, plus ACLS and PALS, a driver's license and CPAT or an equivalent physical test. Dual-role postings expect you to work both fire suppression and EMS calls.
