Job Description
The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Deputy Fire Marshal to assist with directing, managing, supervising, and coordinating the activities and operations of the Code Enforcement Program of the Fire Department, including fire code compliance activities, and other related programs and services; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Fire Marshal and/or Fire Chief.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned program and services; meet with Fire Marshal regularly to discuss future plans and progress toward goals and objectives; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
Participate in the selection of lower level staff; motivate and evaluate departmental personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline procedures.
Manage and participate in the enforcement of the North Carolina fire code, which involves inspections of all applicable commercial and residential properties in the City; recommend updates to the City of Fayetteville fire protection ordinance and fee schedule to the Fire Marshal.
Provide guidance to staff and customers on technical matters and issues interpreting the fire codes.
Identify opportunities for improving work methods and procedures; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
Assist Fire Marshal with the development and administration of the assigned division's annual budget; monitor staff, equipment, material and supplies; implement adjustments as directed.
Assist with Public Information Officer duties and may assist with website contact.
Assist and coordinate with school district, private business, and industry to develop emergency plans and disaster preparedness in correlation and support of the City's Emergency Plan.
Serve as support staff for community disaster preparedness efforts.
Participate in the investigation of employee injuries and worker's compensation claims; process claims, damaged and/or lost equipment.
BENEFITS
Health and Dental Insurance: The City of Fayetteville Employee Healthcare Benefit Plan provides comprehensive and affordable health and dental coverage while maintaining reasonable costs to employees. Coverage is available for all regular status employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. Employees may also choose to cover eligible dependents. The premium is deducted on a pre-tax basis, with the City paying a portion of the premium. Qualifying employees are eligible for benefits on the 1st day of the month following 30 days of service.
Vacation Leave: Regular employees begin accruing vacation leave the first day of employment. Accruals are based on years of service and the number of hours an employee is scheduled to work.
Sick Leave: Regular employees begin accruing sick leave the first day of employment. Accruals are based on the number of hours scheduled to work; regular full-time employees accrue eight (8) hours per month. Sick leave hours accumulate without limits and may be used toward creditable service upon retirement from the NC Local Governmental Retirement System.
Holidays: The City of Fayetteville observes 12 paid holidays per calendar year.
Bereavement: Regular employees are eligible for bereavement leave.
Retirement: The City of Fayetteville assists employees in securing their financial future during retirement by participating in the NC Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System, administered by the State of North Carolina.
Deferred Compensation Plans: The City offers two supplemental retirement savings programs.
Cafeteria Plan / Supplemental Benefits: Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance, Optional Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment.
Employee Assistance Program: The EAP is available at no cost to all employees and their household members.
Requirements: Six years of increasingly responsible experience as a fire code official in a governmental environment; valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability; NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, 300, and NC Fire Code Standard Level III certification; Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, construction technology, or a related field; Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in fire science, public administration, or business administration preferred
Salary: $29.99 - $46.48 Hourly
