Pay & Benefits
Firefighters' starting pay is $31,933.20 per year. After 1 year of service and a Firefighter I certification, all firefighters receive state supplemental pay (an additional $600 per month) for a total yearly salary of $39,133.20 after one year. Overtime and extra duty assignments are also available throughout the year. Employees are offered health insurance for single or family coverage. Pension plan (Louisiana Firefighters Retirement). Paid vacation (minimum 18 days after one year of service). Paid sick leave and holidays. Paid throughout basic training. 24/48 schedule (1 day on, 2 days off). Requirements
You must have a high school diploma or equivalent, including homeschooling projects. You must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Louisiana driver's license. You must pass a Civil Service Entrance Exam.

How to Apply
Individuals must apply for the Entry Level Firefighter Civil Service Entrance Exam, have a passing score (75 or above), and be on the current eligibility list to be considered for hire. Applicants are placed on the eligibility list once a passing score is received. The list is good for 18 months. If you are not hired within the 18-month period, you will have to retake and pass the exam to become eligible again. Apply for the Entry Level Firefighter Civil Service Entrance Exam from the Louisiana Office of State Examiner website. There are two options for taking the exam. In-person for free at the predetermined date/time/location. Online for $40 at any time from any location. Your application may be reviewed by the City of Houma Fire Department prior to receiving your Entry Level Firefighter Civil Service Entrance Exam score, but you cannot be considered for employment until your passing score is received. After an Offer of Employment
You must submit to an interview and background check. You must pass a physical, psychological screening, and drug screening. You must pass a Firefighter Recruit training program that follows Firefighter I as defined by NFPA 1001 standard.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, at least 18 years old, valid Louisiana driver's license, pass Civil Service Entrance Exam (75+), pass physical/psychological/drug screening, pass Firefighter Recruit training and Firefighter I certification
