Job Title:

Fire Inspector

Summary:

By inspecting new and existing commercial, industrial, public assembly, high rise, hospital, nursing home, day care, school, hotel and retail store buildings, employee will contribute to improving the standards for public safety and ensure compliance with fire prevention laws, ordinances, and accepted standards.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Verifying the proper maintenance of fire protection equipment
Enforcing occupancy requirements
Reporting violations
Preparing written warning notices
Making recommendations for eliminating hazards
Referring code violations to other enforcement agencies
Initiating legal action necessary to achieve code compliance
Inspecting the storage and use of explosive or flammable material
Issuing permits to store or handle hazardous material
Presenting fire safety programs
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Course work or a degree in fire science technology or applied science
One or more years of experience in fire code interpretation and enforcement
Knowledge of firefighting techniques and procedures
Knowledge of building codes and inspection methods
Ability to conduct accurate and effective inspections
Communication skills necessary to work with citizens in conducting fire and arson prevention, fire education, and inspection programs
Preferred Qualifications:

Standard Level III Fire Inspector Certification

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an Associate?s degree with one year of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties

Salary:

$60,226 - $63,237
