This is a paid, part-time, scheduled and on-call position. This position is a unique part -time job with both scheduled and unscheduled/on-call response hours that are not predictable. Our firefighters work full-time in other careers, and then respond to fire, rescue, medical and other emergency incidents, participate in training and maintenance activities, and provide fire safety education training and community relations to the public on a part-time and on-call basis. Over 80% of fire departments in Minnesota and the Twin Cities operate this way. This job requires commitment and motivation, which doesn`t happen just by showing up and putting in the time. An applicant should have a desire and passion for the fire service and the type of work and hours that go with it. Make sure you understand what this job is and what it requires.
The initial training is a heavy time commitment, especially in the first several months. Applicants are encouraged to seek as much information as possible to ensure a complete understanding of what will be required before they are hired, after they are hired and on an on-going basis.
