Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic

The Walla Walla Fire Department is an all-hazards organization that provides fire protection and suppression (structure and wildland), advanced life support emergency medical transport services, technical rescue (swift-water, high and low angle rope, confined space, vehicle/machinery extrication, trench rescue, and hazardous materials response). The department responds to over 7,000 calls for service annually and has a very robust CARES program (community paramedicine) to address the more complex medical issues that citizens may have.

Hiring Status: The candidate list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with preference points provided to veteran's. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of five" with the top five candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation, interviews, and selection as vacancies occur.

Salary: $7,194 entry firefighter/paramedic level based on 2025 salary schedule. Educational Incentive Pay - AA Degree - 2%; BA Degree - 4%. Additional specialty pay can be obtained based on specialty assignments.

Requirements: Age 21+, US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, High School Diploma/GED, Valid Driver's License, No adult felonies, EMT Certification required, Paramedic Certification or currently enrolled in Paramedic training program, Prior EMT Experience required, Correctable vision to 20/20, Written Examination and CPAT required, Ability to read, speak, and write English
