Entry Level Firefighter

The Walla Walla Fire Department is an all-hazards organization that provides fire protection and suppression (structure and wildland), advanced life support emergency medical transport services, technical rescue (swift-water, high and low angle rope, confined space, vehicle/machinery extrication, trench rescue, and hazardous materials response). The department responds to over 7,000 calls for service annually and has a very robust CARES program (community paramedicine) to address the more complex medical issues that citizens may have.

Salary Information:
$ 6,311 entry firefighter level based on 2025 salary schedule
Educational Incentive Pay - AA Degree - 2%
Educational Incentive Pay - BA Degree - 4%
*Additional specialty pay can be obtained based on specialty assignments.

Hiring Status:
The candidate list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with preference points provided to veteran's. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of five" with the top five candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation, interviews, and selection as vacancies occur.

Requirements: Minimum age 21, US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, High School Diploma or GED, Valid Driver's License, No adult felony convictions, Ability to read, speak and write English, Vision correctable to 20/20, EMT Certification required within three months of hire, Written Examination required, CPAT required, Veterans Preference Points available
