Entry Level Firefighter/EMT

Sunnyside Fire is currently building an eligibility list for future hires for the end of 2026 and into 2027. In order to be eligible to participate in the City's application screening process as an entry level applicant, the following should be completed in this order: Complete written testing with Public Safety Testing (PST). Obtain a valid CPAT. The CPAT can be obtained from any provider (including PST), but written testing and PHS must be completed with PST. (Need Proof of completed CPAT prior to Chief Interview) Scores from the PST eligibility list are good for one (1) year from the date of PST testing.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur. We are also creating a list of eligible candidates for future hires.

EMS Special Pays: EMT IV Tech – 2.5% Top Step Firefighter, AEMT – 5% Top Step Firefighter, Paramedic – 12% Top Step Firefighter. Requirements: Minimum age 20, US Citizen, High School Grad/GED required, Valid Driver's License required, No felony convictions as an adult, Able to read, speak and write English, Vision correctable to 20/20, EMT Certification required, Firefighter 1 Certification preferred, Prior FF experience preferred, Prior EMT experience preferred, Written Examination required, CPAT required (within 12 months)

Salary: FF Base Salary per month as of Jan 1 2026- $6,213.12 Top step FF Salary per month as of Jan 1 2026- $7,552.09
