Firefighter

The Pasco Fire Department provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, and aircraft rescue and firefighting services to the Pasco community. The department currently operates: 5 fire stations, 100 commissioned firefighters and officers, 3 administrative and support personnel, approximately 8,300 emergency calls annually, 7 ambulances, 6 engines, 1 ladder truck, and 7 specialty apparatus. Work schedule: 48/96. The department also provides advanced life support/basic life support emergency medical transport and maintains specialized capabilities in aircraft rescue and firefighting, technical rescue, hazardous materials, wildland response, or other specialties. New firefighters receive ongoing training and may have opportunities to pursue specialty assignments, advanced certifications, and promotional opportunities as they gain experience.

Hiring Status: The City of Pasco is preparing to establish an Entry Level Firefighter/EMT Civil Service eligibility list. This is an informational posting only. The City of Pasco application is not currently open, and candidates cannot apply through this posting. To begin the process, candidates must first complete the required testing through Public Safety Testing (PST) and submit qualifying scores to the City of Pasco by August 24, 2026. Candidates must create or log in to their PST account, complete the required firefighter written and physical ability testing, add the City of Pasco Fire Department to their selected agencies, and ensure their qualifying scores are submitted to the city by the deadline. Candidates who meet the PST requirements may later receive an invitation to apply directly with the City of Pasco during the designated application period (8/28/26 - 9/8/2026). The anticipated Civil Service process may include: City of Pasco application and document review, Civil Service oral board examination (09/28/26 - 10/2/26), placement on a certified Civil Service eligibility list (10/20/2026), Fire Department interviews, background investigation and required pre-employment examinations. Anticipated start date: 01/04/2027.

Requirements: Age 18, US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, High School Diploma/GED, Current Valid Driver License (any state) with ability to obtain WA State license, Ability to read, speak & write English, Vision correctable to 20/20, EMT Certification (must have at time of application with City of Pasco), Written Examination (required), Candidate Physical Ability Test/CPAT (required, must be obtained within past year, acceptable from any verifiable agency)

Salary: $89,706.05 - $112,138.95 IAFF Wage Scale 2026
