Volunteer Firefighter

Become a volunteer with the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department — be one of the dedicated men and women who donate your time when your community calls. It truly is the experience of a lifetime! We always are looking for individuals who are committed to making a difference in the community. If you feel you have what it takes to meet the challenges of our business, we'd very much like to talk to you. Prior EMS or firefighting experience is not required.

Operational members respond to emergencies and include Emergency Medical Technicians, Firefighters, and Emergency Vehicle Drivers. Members stay overnight at the station to provide coverage on their assigned shifts which run from 6pm to 6am.

Individuals interested in becoming an AVFD member are encouraged to attend our monthly Public Interest Meeting, held at 7:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. During the meeting, prospective members will receive an overview of the membership process, anticipated timelines, training requirements, responsibilities, and expectations associated with serving in the department. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the commitment involved. Those who wish to move forward after the meeting will be provided with the necessary information and means to begin the application process.

Requirements: Authorized to work in the United States, at least 18 years of age by membership start date, background investigation required
