Lead Firefighter (Basic Life Support / Hazardous Materials Technician)

Leads firefighters during fire suppression, rescue, hazardous material, and emergency response operations. Conducts firefighting training, practice drills, and instruction on firefighting and rescue procedures. Lead demonstrations and lectures to instruct crew members concerning firefighting techniques, and fire protection and prevention methods. Directs fire apparatus operations and oversees crew activities during emergencies and station duties.

This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis; 48-hour rotating shifts with a work schedule of 144 hours per pay period.

This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. The MEA for Firefighters is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37.

This is a Term position scheduled to last no more than 5 Years and cannot be made permanent.

The incumbent must participate in the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Wellness Program to include: a. Structured Physical Exercise Program; b. Annual Physical Examination; c. Bi-Annual Physical Performance Evaluation.

This position requires the incumbent to receive a Hepatitis B vaccination or sign a waiver. This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and other safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be authorized. Student Loan Repayment may be authorized. Salary Negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service may be authorized.
