Compensated Volunteer Firefighter

Duties: Responding to a variety of emergency and non-emergency calls. Equipment and station maintenance. Perform inspections for Pre-fire plans. Hydrant testing.

Hours: 12-hour shifts from 8AM-8PM and 8PM-8AM all days of the week. Applicants are required to work 36 hours a month on average.

Stations: ELVFD has 4 fire stations to choose from.

Min. Requirements: Applicant must be certified as Fire Fighter I, Fire Fighter II, Hazardous Material-Awareness and operation Level or equivalent meeting NFPA 1001-2008, Standard for fighter professional qualification, must provide proof of certification. Applicant must be at least a certified Emergency Medical Technician by the Texas Department of Health, must provide proof of certification. Experience-1 year paid or 2 years volunteer. Class B driver license.

Hiring Timeline: Review Application & Background. Notification of candidates of written Exam & Physical Ability date and time. Candidates must pass a written exam, physical ability test, drug screen, and have a good driving record to be considered for hire. Interview panel. Job offer and Hire date.

Salary: Effective 10/1/2025 Starting pay $20.50/HR. (21.00/HR. with basic NWCG wildland IS-130 and IS-190) After one year $1.00/hr. ($22.00) Saturday & Sunday Shifts $1.00/HR Extra. Max Pay $23.00 Per Hour Holiday Pay $100.00 Per extra 12Hr shift for Major Holidays.
