Fire Cadet (EMT Basic Firefighter Single Cert or No Cert Required)

To be eligible for hire, applicants can: Have no certification to apply as a Cadet Be certified as a firefighter as prescribed by Texas Commission on Fire Protection standards Be certified as an EMT-basic as prescribed by the Texas Department of State Health Services rules Have submitted a completed Applicant Screening Packet Have successfully passed the following: Written entrance examination Background investigation Job-related physical abilities test Oral board interview Polygraph examination Interview with the fire chief Fitness-for-duty medical examination, including drug screening Not be past his/her 36th birthday by the date of hire Be able to obtain a Class B driver's license within three months of hire

Suppression works a 24 hr on, 48 hr off work rotation with a Kelly day (paid day off every third week of the rotation).

Salary & Benefits include: Medical insurance (employee-only premium 100% paid), dental (100% preventative), life insurance, 15 days vacation per year, 11 paid holidays, sick leave, and Texas Local Firefighter Relief and Retirement Act defined benefit pension plan with 18% employee contribution and 20% city contribution.

Requirements: Citizenship, high school diploma or equivalent, able to read and write English, at least 18 years old, not past 36th birthday by date of hire, can obtain Class B driver's license within 3 months, certified or certifiable as firefighter and EMT-basic

Salary: Starting salary: $5,475 per month, paid biweekly; $6,179 after one year of service
