The County of Randall needs qualified individuals to fill anticipated openings for the following position. JOB TITLE: FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 18 years of age.
- Valid Class B Texas Drivers' License or able to obtain within 6 months.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Must be able to pass a criminal and driving background check.
- Basic Structural Firefighter certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Current certification or certifiable upon hire.
- Licensed through the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician Current certification or certifiable upon hire.
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group S-130/S-190 certification.
- Randall Athletic Firefighter Test (RAFT) within the last twelve months. FOR APPLICANTS NEEDING a RAFT, it will be offered at Randall County Fire Department Station 1. Practice times and the final test time will be determined during the application period and sent out to all applicants who provide a valid email address.
- NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 certifications.
Selected applicants must complete an oral interview. More information on the time of the interview will be made available once your application is processed and passing the RAFT is confirmed. Candidates who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening and are subject to a background investigation that includes employment history, criminal history, driving record and references.
JOB DUTIES:
Randall County Fire Department is a combination department with 30+ paid staff and approximately 18 volunteers. Currently Randall County Fire Department works a 24-hour shift schedule, working 24 hours on 72 hours of then 48 hours on and 72 hours off rotating (1/3/2/3). The department responds to an area covering more than 400 square miles with a population of approximately 26,000. This does not include mutual aid responsibilities. There are 3 stations and over 22 pieces of equipment. The successful applicant will provide emergency response (fire suppression, rescue, medical, etc.) working as a firefighter with both paid and volunteer firefighters. Firefighters will work within the incident command system and will have maintenance, training, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Fire Chief.
PHYSICAL ACTIVIES REQUIRED:
Including but not limited to: walk, run, crawl, climb, perform duties and carry equipment dressed in 50+ pounds of protective clothing. Be able to lift 100+ pounds, reading, writing, seeing, hearing, speaking, bending, squatting, and standing.
STARTING SALARY: $53,601.13 (Does not reflect built in overtime) *Education/certification pay available*
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Inspector
- Fire Service Instructor
- Driver/Operator-Pumper
- Any NWCG certification
- EMT-A or higher from the Texas Department of State Health Services
- NIMS ICS-300 and ICS-400.
- Office duties experience: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Bilingual
