Chattanooga Fire Department is now accepting applications for 2027 Fire Academy.

Minimum Qualifications for CFD Firefighters:
- Age: At least 18 years of age and under the age of 40 at academy completion
- Education: Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States
- Driver License: Valid Tennessee Driver's License is required
- Military: Must be honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces (if applicable). A P.O.S.T waiver must be granted for any uncharacterized discharges
- Must not have been convicted of, plead guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendre to any felony charge of violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances and meeting any other standards as set forth in Tennessee Code Annotated Section 38-8-106. Convictions include citations-in-lieu of arrest

Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) is a career department that responds to over 19,000 emergencies annually. The department serves the citizens, properties, and visitors of the city of Chattanooga, which has the fourth largest population in the state of Tennessee at 177,571 (U.S. Census Bureau estimate, 2016). The department protects an immense and growing 144 square miles in Hamilton County, and has additional technical rescue duties. Every citizen, visitor, and every square foot provide the basis for the department's existence and mission.

Requirements: Age 18 at application and under 40 at academy completion, high school diploma or GED, U.S. citizenship, valid Tennessee driver's license, honorably discharged from U.S. Armed Forces (if applicable), no felony convictions or pleas related to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances
