Firefighter

Position Classification: Full-time Firefighter (24/48 rotation)
- Firefighter 2 with First Aid/CPR/AED
- Firefighter 2 with National Registry EMR
- Firefighter 2 with National Registry EMT-Basic
- Firefighter 2 with National Registry Paramedic (not currently applicable)

Reports to: Shift Captain

Function: The purpose of the class is to perform fire suppression and rescue operations to protect the lives and property of those efficiently and effectively in need of assistance; to provide medical assistance, and to perform related work as required.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Responds to emergency situations to perform fire suppression, hazardous materials incident response and rescue duties.
- Provides crowd and traffic control at emergency scenes; assists with salvage, overhaul, cleanup, and evacuation activities as necessary.
- Administers CPR and First Aid and provides medical assistance at the First Responder level, at minimum
- May drive and operate fire response vehicles. Other apparatus requires special license and training to drive and operate.
- Cleans and maintains fire apparatus, equipment, stations and grounds; ensure equipment is operational and response ready; maintains emergency response equipment in a constant state of readiness.
- Receives and responds to public inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
- Attends training, seminars, and meetings to remain knowledgeable of modern fire suppression and prevention methods; maintains required certifications.
- Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and records, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, attending meetings, answering the telephone, and job specific tasks as requested by your immediate supervisor.
- Shall live within the reach of Spartanburg County dispatch tone signals and may be requested to return to active duty for emergency response.

Requirements: High school diploma or GED, Firefighter 2 certification (Firefighter 1 may be considered), CPR and First Aid certifications, Medical First Responder certification, valid state driver's license, Class E commercial driver's license preferable, must live within reach of Spartanburg County dispatch tone signals
