Job Description
General Description: The purpose of this job position is to provide general firefighting work, respond to calls for emergency service and to perform related work as required. This class consists of technical work in prevention, control, and suppression of structural and non-structural fires; responds to fire and rescue calls; fire suppression, renders emergency medical assistance while on scene; and operate rescue equipment. This class works under direct supervision of the shift supervisor, reporting all incidents, conditions, or activities to the shift supervisor through periodic notifications, meetings both formal and informal. This class generally works five days a week, Monday through Friday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Portrays a professional attitude and maintains a positive public image.
• Performs duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies.
• Performs highly skilled work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue.
• Maintains firefighting equipment and fire stations, which includes checking apparatus fire pumps, checking apparatus radios, maintaining apparatus equipment, air cylinders and fire hoses.
• Maintains assigned PPE, portable radio, and other equipment.
• Provides general fire station maintenance duties to include general housekeeping and apparatus cleaning at assigned workstation. Reports major problems to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains current training standards by participating in various methods of training related to firefighting, medical, hazmat, rescue skills.
• Utilizes and operates various types of machinery and equipment including fire apparatus, hoses, breathing apparatus, air compressors, radios, small engines, hand tools, pumps, fire extinguishers, computer, copier, and general office supplies.
• Participates and delivers Community Risk Reduction programs. Assists in the completion of pre-incident plans and building inspections.
• Participates in preventative testing (hydrant, hose, pump), etc.
• Represents Orangeburg County Fire Service by interacting and communicating with various groups and individuals such as Fire Chiefs, volunteers, other emergency response agencies, law enforcement agencies, co-workers, and the general public.
• Works under stressful, high-risk conditions and with life threatening situations.

Requirements: High school diploma or GED, At least three (3) years of experience as a Firefighter I or equivalent, IFSAC Firefighter I, SCFA EVDT or equivalent, SCFA Pump Ops I or equivalent, SCFA Hazmat Ops or equivalent, CPR/First Aid or equivalent, Successful completion of Orangeburg County JPAT and Fire Brigade Clearance upon hire
Salary: $15.75 Hourly
