Job Description
Entry-level firefighter/EMT position with Providence Fire Department. Candidates train in a 26-week academy at $20/hour (40 hours/week), then transition to appointed firefighter role at $53,827/year with rotating 24-hour shifts. Must obtain Rhode Island EMT-Basic certification prior to appointment and EMT-Cardiac or Paramedic within 36 months.
Requirements: Valid motor vehicle operator's license, at least 18 years old, high school diploma or GED, US citizen or US-INS qualified, pass general aptitude written exam, pass RIAFC Physical Performance Assessment (CPAT or PPA within 1 year), pass oral interview, pass extensive background investigation including psychological exam, criminal background, medical examination, and drug testing
Salary: $20/hr during academy, $53,827/yr starting after academy
