Steuben County, New York is currently recruiting candidates for the PERMANENT PART-TIME position of
PARAMEDIC (PT)
This position is located at the Steuben County Department of Emergency Services.
DISTINGUISING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The Paramedic is a New York State verified emergency medical first responder capable of
effectively delivering emergency care and treatment to those sick or injured in various, sometimes
physically demanding, situations. The Paramedic shall have the ability to make definitive patient
care decisions under stressful situations, as well as effectively directing, or working with, others at
the emergency scene. The Paramedic shall possess good manual dexterity, the ability to lift and
care up to 125 pounds, and the ability to function efficiently, without interruption, for long periods of
time. Incumbents perform their duties under the general supervision of the Emergency Medical
Service Coordinator. Town and Village positions are performed under the supervision of a person
assigned by the Town, Village, or District. Does related work as required.
MUST BE SUCCESSFUL IN A CIVIL SERVICE EXAMNINATION AT A LATER DATE.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S):
• Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license AND valid New York State EMT-
Paramedic.
• Possession of valid American Heart Association ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life
Support) certification
• Possession of valid PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification OR possession of
valid PEPP (Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals) certification
• Possession of valid American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification
Continuous credentialing, as specified by the Southern Tier Regional EMS Council, at the
Paramedic level, as appropriate.
*Certifications and licenses are required at time of appointment and must be maintained on a
continuous basis throughout the term of appointment.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
✓ $28.2269 - $34.9803/hour - Depending on Experience
✓ NYS Retirement
