Firefighter/Paramedic

Under general supervision, the Firefighter/Paramedic performs firefighting activities in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires; provides advanced emergency medical care; responds to emergency and other incidents; and performs related work.

Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescue incidents, and public-assistance calls. Provide advanced life support, patient assessment, and Paramedic-level emergency medical treatment. Participate in hose operations, ladder operations, ventilation, extinguishment, extrication, and salvage. Operate and maintain firefighting, rescue, EMS, and wildland equipment as assigned. Participate in training, fire prevention, public education, and station operations. Prepare reports, maintain equipment, and perform duties safely and professionally.

Probationary Period: Twelve months beginning upon successful completion of the academy. Positions require varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and mandatory shifts, as applicable.

This recruitment does not require prior firefighter experience. Applicants must meet the required qualifications and successfully complete the District's Fire Academy.

Operations personnel work a 48-hours-on / 96-hours-off schedule, providing four days between regularly scheduled shifts. The District pays 100% of the employee medical premium and 50% of dependent medical premiums. Firefighter/Paramedics are represented by International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2487. Employees participate in the Nevada Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Submit a complete application by November 11, 2026. Include the required documentation and proof of successful CPAT completion. Complete NTN written testing and select Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District through NTN before applying. Both CPAT and NTN results must remain valid throughout recruitment. Applicants must also meet the Paramedic certification deadline before the District's new-hire EMS skills evaluation.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, valid driver's license, successful completion of CPAT and NTN written examination, valid State of Nevada or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification by time of skills assessment, Firefighter I and II certifications, CPR certification, ACLS certification, ITLS or PHTLS certification, PALS certification, Nevada Class C driver's license with F endorsement within six months of appointment

Salary: $27.14 - $35.31 Hourly
