Firefighter

Our firefighters are trained to Nationally Recognized National Fire Protection Association Standard for Professional Firefighters. Through a combination of department-sponsored trainings and those provided by the Nassau County Fire Service Academy in Old Bethpage, the training requirements are usually completed in approximately 12 months. Training Topics include:
- General Knowledge
- General Skills
- Fire Department Communications
- Fireground Operations
- First Aid & CPR

While many of our firefighters are also medically certified, the department actively recruits members who wish to focus their training in Emergency Medical response. Our fire-medics are trained at a minimum to Nationally Recognized Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) standards, through a combination of department-sponsored trainings and those provided by one of three local Emergency Medical Academies. In order to become licensed as an EMT, you must take an accredited course. EMTs courses are normally between 150 and 180 hours to complete and successfully pass a written and practical exam. Training topics include:

All required and advanced training is provided to the member at no cost.
