Firefighter (Full-Time)

This position is responsible for protective service work in fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency medical, and other emergency services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responds to fire alarms, delivers all equipment, and implements fire suppression and firefighting techniques to rescue victims and protect private and public property. Operates all types of portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment, emergency medical equipment, and other firefighting and medical equipment as required. Tests and maintains fire apparatus and equipment, cleans fire stations and grounds, performs routine maintenance. Inspects, cleans, and maintains fire hoses, pumps, hydrants, and related equipment. Performs all necessary training activities in accordance with readiness and preparation for firefighting activities, including training in fire suppression, emergency medical training, hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, technical rescues, equipment use and maintenance, and other related functions; participates in fire drills. Responds to emergency medical calls and administers first aid and/or basic life support as appropriate, including assessing patients, CPR, resuscitation, operating an automated external defibrillator, rescue breathing, administration of oxygen, recording vital signs, and other related medical treatments as appropriate. Maintains physical fitness by actively participating in PT training. Assists in enforcing fire codes and instructs during training classes on occasion. Prepares and submits the required reports. Conducts station tours for the public, schools, and community. Assists in conducting pre-planning studies. Participates in assigned special areas or on specialized projects such as hazardous material response, high-level rescue, or confined space rescue. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Starting on 8-hour days (Day shift) and then transition to 24 hours on /48 hours off

Tentative Recruitment Testing Schedule:
Week of October 19th: Written testing and Physical Abilities Course walkthrough
November 14th & 21st: Physical Abilities Course Test
Week of December 7: Interviews

Note: Firefighter candidates are required to upload a resume, NC Firefighter I & II Certification Transcripts, and an EMR Certification. These must be attached with your application to be considered for a Firefighter position.

Requirements: High School diploma or GED, NC Firefighter I & II Certification, North Carolina Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification or higher, Valid North Carolina driver's license or any valid driver's license with ability to obtain NC driver's license within 60 days, NIMS 100 & 200, Statesville Fire Department Driver Operator I within 6 months, NC Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification within 12 months

Salary: $48,568.28 Annually
