JOB TITLE: Career Firefighter (Applicant Pool) POSTING DATE: October 20, 2025 CLOSING DATE: Until position is filled. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Fire EMPLOYEE GROUP: IAFF - Firefighters EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, Full-Time WORK SCHEDULE: 24-hour shifts (1 on 2 off, 1 on, 4 off) and OT as required. PAY RATE: $55,533 - $83,281 PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in firefighting and emergency medical response is desired. EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent. Associate’s degree preferred. SPECIAL SKILLS & TRAINING: Fire Fighter I and II and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications. Must have a State of Michigan Emergency Medical Paramedic License at time of hire. Documents must accompany the completed application. Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver's license with no serious record of misdemeanors, traffic violations, or felony record. Must have 20/20 vision or correctable to that vision level. Written Exam and Candidate Physical Agility Testing certifications from Conference of Western Wayne Schoolcraft College Fire Training Institutes Testing Program. BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Respond to Fire Department incidents and to medical emergency incidents; drive, care for and maintain fire apparatus and property; perform clerical duties; participate in fire prevention activities as assigned and perform related work as required. May involve special assignments such as EMT Coordinator, Plan Review Officer or Hazardous Materials Coordinator.
