Firefighter/Paramedic

Thank you for your interest in becoming a firefighter for the St. George Fire Department!

The following are the requirements to be considered for employment:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must be a United States citizen or immigration status must be current and must permit you to work a full-time job in the United States
- Must possess a government-issued driver's license
- Must pass the Louisiana State Firefighters Civil Service Test for employment as a firefighter
- PARAMEDICS: Must pass the Paramedic Civil Service Test for employment as a Paramedic *** Make sure to attach a copy of your NREMT Paramedic Certification, LA State Paramedic License, and current CPR card to the Civil Service Application

Once the applicant receives a valid test score from the State Examiner, they must fill out an application. The application and the rest of the required documentation must be dropped off at SGFD headquarters, or mailed to: St. George Fire Protection District Attn: Public Affairs 14100 Airline Hwy St. George, LA 70817

The following steps must be completed in order to be considered for employment:
- Pass background investigation through Louisiana State Police
- Pass a psychological exam
- Pass a medical exam and drug screen
- Pass the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test
- Review of Certifications and Transcripts
- Applicant Interview

For firefighters: if these are all successfully completed, a conditional offer of employment may be made in order to complete the Recruit Academy. Upon obtaining the EMT certification, completion of the Recruit Academy and the appropriate probationary period as dictated by Civil Service Law, a Firefighter candidate is officially certified as a St. George Firefighter.

Requirements: Age 18+, high school diploma or GED, US citizenship or valid work authorization, government-issued driver's license, Louisiana State Firefighters Civil Service Test passage, Paramedic Civil Service Test passage, NREMT Paramedic Certification, LA State Paramedic License, current CPR card
