Volunteer Firefighter/EMT

Act as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT for the Fire Department of the City of Tiffin, Iowa. Engages directly in fire prevention and suppression activities to protect and safeguard lives and property; responds to EMS calls to care for the sick and injured, assists in maintenance and repair of fire station and equipment; assists in maintenance of fire apparatus; does related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to: Clean, maintain and make minor repairs to fire apparatus and equipment. Perform a wide variety of routine tasks in connection with the maintenance of fire station quarters and grounds. Participation in departmental or outside the station courses. Respond with and operate fire apparatus. Engage directly in fire suppression, search & rescue; and perform salvage and overhaul operations at the scene of fire. Assist in the starting of gas-powered tools. Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned and/or reloaded after an incident. Be proficient in operation of S.C.B.A. Be proficient in the operation of extrication equipment used for disentanglement. Provide emergency medical care for sick or injured patients. Check fire hydrants for operation and physical damage. Operate and recharge portable fire extinguishers. Engage in cooperative duties in other departments as determined by the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief or other Fire Officers.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform work in any position, including at above-ground heights, and exert force in all directions safely. Heavy work requires exertion of 100 pounds or more of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment: Work is performed inside or outside 365 days a year. This includes being exposed to all weather conditions, slippery surfaces, moving machinery and tools, exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials, radiation, noise, sharp objects, confined spaces, smoke, heights, mechanical and electrical hazards, noxious odors.

Requirements: High School diploma or GED, Valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by State of Iowa with acceptable driving record, Firefighter I certification, Firefighter II certification, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, ICS/IS/NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications, Conscientious and dependable, Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
