Cadet Program

The Cary Fire Protection District Cadet Program is designed for in-district students between the ages of 16 and 19 who are interested in exploring a future career in firefighting or emergency medical services. As a cadet, participants gain valuable insight into the fire service and get a firsthand look at the daily responsibilities of firefighter/paramedics.

Cadets have the opportunity to train alongside firefighters and, when appropriate, observe real emergency calls through ride-alongs. Those who successfully complete the program may be eligible for the Firefighter in Training (FIT) Program, which may provide the chance to attend and complete formal firefighter courses.

Cadets meet once during the first week of each month and are welcome to attend all regular department training sessions and events.

This is an ongoing program, and applications are accepted year-round. A maximum of 10 cadets may participate at any given time, so all interested individuals must complete an application. Applicants under the age of 18 must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate. Please note that this is a volunteer-based program and is not a paid position.
