Firefighter

To reach the eligibility pool, you must: Submit a completed application with all required documents, Pass the CPAT (your CPAT card must stay valid through the date of the written exam), and Pass the written test.

If you're selected to continue in the hiring process, you'll also need to pass a background investigation, oral interviews, a polygraph, a psychological evaluation, and a medical exam that includes a drug screen.

Application Deadline is Monday, November 2, 2026, by 5 p.m. Complete applications with supporting documents must be received by Human Resources to move forward in the testing process. Supporting Documents include: Certified Birth Certificate, Driver's license, High school diploma or GED, and proof of residency. Military service DD214 required to award military points.

Orientation for Applicants (not mandatory): Friday, November 6, 2026 from 4-6 p.m. or Saturday, November 7, from 9-11 a.m. at Fire Training Academy, 7130 N. Galena Road, Peoria, IL 61615.

CPAT Test (Mandatory): Friday, February 5, 2027 - 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 6, 2027 - 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; Friday, February 12, 2027 – 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 13, 2027 – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Written Test (Mandatory): Thursday, March 4, 2027, 6:00 p.m.; Friday, March 5, 2027, 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 6, 2027, 9:00 a.m. at Fire Training Academy, 7130 N. Galena Road, Peoria, IL 61615.

Requirements: Age 21-34 (or older with 5+ years firefighter experience), High school diploma or GED, U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency, Valid driver's license, No felony conviction or certain misdemeanors, No recreational cannabis use, Must pass background investigation, CPAT, written exam, oral interviews, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and medical exam with drug screen, Must agree to be fingerprinted, Principal residence in City of Peoria by end of one-year probationary period
