CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER - INTERMITTED

JOB TITLE: Firefighter Certified – Intermitted DEPARTMENT: Fire Department SUPERVISOR: Fire Chief PREPARED BY: City of Camilla DATE: August 2017 GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs responsible protective service work in fire suppression; does related work as required. Much of the work is performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling; worker must be able to lift and carry dead weight of at least 125 pounds; worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold; during firefighting activities worker is subjected to heavy smoke, fumes and gases; the worker is required to wear and work in a respirator; position requires visual acuity sufficient to safely operate fire equipment and to affect search and rescue operations and hearing sufficient to accurately perceive information at spoken word levels; manual dexterity is required for grasping and operating equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: Responding to emergency fire related situations, entry, suppression and rescue; maintaining equipment and facilities; continuing training and instruction. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, first aid, CPR, first responder, entry, ventilating, salvage work and first response emergency situations; Performs cleanup and overhaul work; Assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment and cleaning fire station and grounds. Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes; Inspects, cleans and maintains fire hose, pumps, hydrants and related equipment; Assists in conducting pre-planning studies; Performs other firefighting and related emergency tasks consistent with appropriate NFPA standards for position; May serve as driver and equipment operator if qualified; Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of firefighting techniques and procedures as applied to fire suppression; knowledge of technical firefighting principles of hydraulics as applied to fire suppression; knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent from high school. Must be National Professional Qualification certified within one year of employment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Georgia. Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications for position as established by the department. Able to maintain NPQ and State Certification and able to obtain first responder certification. Must be able to participate and successfully complete ongoing training
