Firefighter EMT/Paramedic

The City of Edgewater is seeking a Firefighter EMT/Paramedic to join our team. Under general supervision receives and responds to emergency incidents performing the necessary functions to efficiently handle the situation, to protect the lives and property of those in need of assistance. Reports to assigned Supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: (all duties may not be performed by all incumbents)

Responds to emergency situations within the City and other areas in compliance with mutual aid agreements when needed

Performs basic and advanced life support rescue, fire control, EMS transport and other emergency services

Maintains assigned specialized apparatus and equipment. Assures repairs are performed when necessary to ensure safe and proper operating condition

Responds to a variety of emergency incidents requiring the administration of medical treatment, removing victims from danger, hazardous materials, confined spaces, water, or elevated rescues, extrication, etc.

Provides educational programs/presentations for the public in fire safety, emergency medical, and emergency services methods

Performs fire prevention inspections of commercial buildings and contents; conducts emergency incident pre-planning as needed

Performs other related work as required

Foster positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis

May be required to return to work to assist with emergency management preparation, response and/or recovery activities

Job Specifications (Education and Experience)

High school diploma required

Vocational/Technical training in fire and rescue techniques required

Florida certified Firefighter required

Florida State Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a Paramedic with the qualifications to practice in Volusia County required

American Heart Association Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required

Valid Florida driver's license required

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Special Requirements

Tattoo Policy: No tattoos, brands, or body ornamentation on the head, scalp, face, neck, or hands

Requirements: EMT/Paramedic certification
