Volunteer Firefighter

Operates safely as part of a team, under the direction of the incident commander and or crew leader at emergency scenes. Operates various pieces of equipment including but not limited to hose lines, ladders, electrical equipment, breathing apparatus (SCBA), hydraulic equipment, and various power and hand tools. Obtains additional training through monthly in-house training, state sponsored classes, and other approved training resources. Particpates in various company functions including fundraisers and work projects. Presents themselves in a positive manner to other area fire company members and the general public.

Benefits: $1,500 tax abatement for members who attend 20% of the emergency responses and attend 20 hours training each year. After completion of training, eligible to join the City of Norwich Volunteer Firefighters Relief Fund. The Department will provide all relevant training and PPE at no cost to the member.

Requirements: Live in or adjacent to the East Great Plain Fire Company response district, physically able to perform tasks in a hazardous environment, able to attend entry-level and ongoing training, pass Department interview and background process, be a team player, be available to respond to emergency calls
