Fire Captain (Volunteer/Stipend)

Under general direction of the fire chief or battalion chief, serves as first line supervisor of fire station operations; responsible for personnel, apparatus, facilities, and equipment; provides staff support and assistance in the planning, development and implementation of fire prevention, fire inspection, public education, support services, and emergency operations programs and services; may serve as an emergency ground commander until relieved by a superior officer; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties: Responds to emergencies as assigned, including rescues, explosions, and medical emergencies within the area of responsibility and assumes command on the fire ground until relieved by a superior officer. Plan, coordinate, assign, direct, and participate in emergency and non-emergency response operations and activities of an assigned shift within a fire station. Organizes and directs all training at the fire department and implements training programs as directed, including apparatus and equipment and emergency medical care. Maintains fire station records systems to include required station log; completes required periodic reports to include employee evaluations, fire incident reports and monthly reports. Organizes and coordinates all fire station operations which may include fire apparatus, public safety vehicles and fire equipment maintenance. Direct and participate in equipment and station maintenance, fire prevention, and inspection, and other operational and administrative assignments. Assists in the analysis of data regarding fire problems in assigned areas and makes recommendations for correction. Directs and coordinates, and supervises personnel in the implementation of inspection, public education, community risk reduction, other programs and work plans. Assists in the evaluation, modification, development, and implementation of existing or new programs. Coordinates emergency and non-emergency response activities with other departments and outside agencies and organizations.

The Fire Captain is a volunteer serving in an at-will and non-benefited position. The department does offer volunteer fire suppression personnel a shift stipend as approved by the Board of Directors.

Requirements: Minimum 21 years old, High School graduation or GED, 3 years service as fire apparatus engineer, 5 years overall fire suppression experience in California fire department, State of California Firefighter I Certification, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate, National Registry and/or California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License OR California Title 22 certification, valid Class A or B California Commercial Driver's License or Class C with Firefighter endorsement, I-200 Driver Operator 1A & 1B Certificates

Salary: $150.00 - $3,500.00 Monthly
