Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT-B (Volunteer/Stipend)

Under general supervision, responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls to protect life and property; drives, operates and maintains fire apparatus and equipment; assumes a lead responsibility or performs specialized functions in the implementation of public education programs, fire prevention, fire inspection, code enforcement programs, and support services programs; assumes responsibility for carrying out company officer responsibilities; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Fire Apparatus Engineer's serve in a at-will and non-benefited position. The department offers Fire Apparatus Engineer's a shift stipend as approved by the Board of Directors. Fire Apparatus Engineers are expected to cover one 24-hour shift per week, plus additional trainings and community events as required by the department.

Examples of Duties: Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls by driving assigned automotive equipment or fire apparatus to the required location. Drives, operates and maintains various types of firefighting and suppression apparatus and equipment, including but not limited to pumping and ladder equipment and ground monitors. Performs routine and minor repairs and inspects fire apparatus and equipment. Performs in a lead capacity in the implementation of public education programs, fire prevention and code enforcement programs, field inspections, fire inspections, apparatus maintenance and other support services programs. Trains personnel in the operation and maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment. Reports on equipment maintenance and work operations using a personal computer, or other types of office equipment. Maintains skills and knowledge in public safety and firefighting field through study of various fire related procedure manuals, applicable fire codes, and applicable courses. Inspects safety violations to determine compliance with the California Fire Code (CFC) during building inspections.

Requirements: Minimum 21 years old, High School diploma or GED, Two years firefighter service experience, Four years suppression/operations experience, California Firefighter I Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months, State of California Certified Driver Operator 1A and 1B, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate, National Registry and/or California EMT License, valid Class A or B California Commercial Drivers License or Class C with Firefighter Endorsement

Salary: $500.00 - $3,500.00 Monthly
