Firefighter - Paramedic

Respond to fire incidents, emergency medical calls, and other emergencies to protect life, property, and the environment. Participate in fire training, prevention, public education, and maintenance of stations and equipment. Report to the company officer or acting captain. Follow medical direction from Santa Barbara County EMSA protocols and the Department Medical Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Emergency Response: Respond to structure fires, wildland fires, and vehicle fires. Place fire hoses, operate fire streams, set ladders, and enter burning structures to conduct rescues and fire control. Perform salvage and overhaul operations during and after fires. Stand fire watch. Provide medical assistance and perform emergency medical procedures as per EMT-Paramedic scope of practice and Santa Barbara County EMSA protocols and document as required. Conduct rescues in various scenarios including vehicle accidents, injuries, trapped persons or animals, hazardous substance releases, and natural disasters. Understand and apply hazardous materials operations and decontamination procedures in compliance with regulations. Understand and apply fireground and wildland/urban-interface command strategies and tactics.

Equipment Operation: Use and maintain personal protective equipment, including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Safely and effectively operate fire department equipment, including generators, pumps, power saws, and hydraulic tools. Drive and operate fire department vehicles, including fire apparatus, after proper certification and licensing. Know the location of and how to use all medical equipment within the EMT-P scope of practice.

Equipment Maintenance: Inspect fire hydrants and perform minor maintenance, clearing of area. Wash, polish, and perform preventive maintenance on fire apparatus, equipment, and tools. Clean and maintain fire stations and ground.

Fire Prevention and Public Relations: Perform business and commercial occupancy inspections and be familiar with fire prevention strategies and codes. Present programs and participate in public relations activities.

Training, Administrative and Fitness: Engage in training, drills and classes as directed to maintain and enhance firefighting and emergency response skills. Complete accurate and detailed documentation for all medical interventions and fire incidents. Adhere to the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Montecito Fire Protection District. Maintain physical fitness through a self-directed program. Maintain a clean professional appearance and comply with Policy 1013 Conduct and Behavior.

Work involves 48-hour shifts with breaks, subject to emergency interruptions. Off-duty emergency recall. Work settings include fire stations and field locations.

Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, California State Firefighter 1 Certificate or Firefighter 1 Academy, California EMT-Paramedic license, Maintain Santa Barbara County Paramedic Accreditation, Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent and AED certification, Valid California driver's license (upon hire), No felony convictions, CPAT or Biddle certification dated within 12 months prior to application close date, California Firefighter Candidate Testing Center State Eligibility List with written test score of 70% or higher dated within 12 months prior to application close date, Current ACLS & PALS certification prior to appointment

Salary: $126,720.00 - $165,636.00 Annually
