Firefighter

Mayflower Fire Department is seeking dependable part-time firefighters to provide fire protection, emergency response, and community service. Members must demonstrate sound judgment, teamwork, and a commitment to training and reliable shift coverage.

Part-time firefighters help maintain staffed coverage for the City of Mayflower by working scheduled shifts and responding to fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, and other calls for assistance. This position involves emergency response, equipment readiness, station duties, training, and fire prevention activities. Members work under the direction of department officers and are expected to follow department policies, maintain professional standards, and honor their scheduled shift commitments. Day and night shifts may include weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
- Respond to fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, rescues, and other calls for service.
- Perform fire suppression, search, rescue, and other assigned duties within training and qualifications.
- Provide emergency medical care within the member's certification level and department protocols.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain apparatus, tools, protective equipment, and station facilities.
- Participate in required training and maintain necessary certifications.
- Assist with hydrant testing, pre-incident planning, fire prevention, and community education as assigned.
- Complete incident reports and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Follow department policies, safety procedures, and the incident command system.
- Report for scheduled shifts on time and ready for duty, and promptly communicate scheduling conflicts.
- Maintain professional conduct and work effectively with fellow firefighters, other agencies, and the public

Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the City.
- Meet department training and certification requirements for assigned duties.
- Ability to perform essential firefighting duties, with or without reasonable accommodation, including strenuous work while wearing protective equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions, communicate clearly, and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
- Dependability and availability to work agreed-upon shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- Willingness to participate in required training and maintain proficiency with department apparatus and equipment.
- Successful completion of applicable City and department pre-employment screening.

Pre-employment requirements
Any offer of employment for this position is conditional on the candidate successfully completing the City's pre-employment screening, which includes: a pre-employment drug screen; a criminal background check; verification of employment history, education, and any license or certification the position requires; and for positions that drive City vehicles or equipment, a review of the candidate's driving record. A criminal record does not automatically disqualify a candidate. The City considers the nature of the offense, how long ago it occurred, and how it relates to the duties of the position. Background checks are conducted only with the candidate's written authorization.

Salary: $14.00/hr
