FT/PT Firefighter, Emergency Medical Responder

FT/PT Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder Reports to Mayor, Fire Chief, and Designee assigned by Fire Chief Job Overview Work is primarily performed in an office or firehouse, except while on a fire scene. At fire scenes, duties are often performed under hazardous and stressful conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, hazardous materials requiring use of protective equipment. Work may require lifting, climbing ladders, distinguishing between shades of color, walking, and standing for prolonged periods of time and using equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Responsibilities and Duties Answer fire calls and assist in supervision of fires including ventilation, entry, rescue, and salvage work during and after regular work hours. Drives and operates fire trucks and other equipment. Gives emergency first aid to injured people. Lays and connects hose lines and operates nozzles directing water streams. Operates portable chemical fire extinguishers. Select the most effective route and speed when on a fire call. Aids in maintenance and upkeep of the fire station and grounds. Aids in equipment maintenance. Attends individual and department training: EMT refresher, firefighting theory and practices and first aid. Annual hydrant testing and maintenance. Annual pre-plans and inspections on commercial properties. Expectations Arrive at work on time. Attend all emergency incidents as required and possible. Prepare reports and submit them in a timely manner. Enforce serious fire code violations. Attend all required meetings. Qualifications Knowledge of principals of firefighting and modern firefighting methods. Completion of Firefighter 1 and 2 will be recommended. EMR or higher. Completion of State Firefighting Academy courses and all required firefighter certificates. Valid Driver’s license. Knowledge of the town water system and of the town geography, such as streets, hydrants, building construction, design, and usage of various structures throughout the city. Knowledge of the operation and mechanical principles of all the cities firefighting equipment. The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions. The ability to work from ladders, heights and in close quarters. The physical ability to react to a wide variety of emergency firefighting situations that may include holding and directing a high-pressure water hose and the ability to lift and carry injured persons from a burning building. Minimum weightlifting requirement of 50 lbs. Recommended to live in city limits of Bull Shoals, no more than ten miles (In order to be able to respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.)
