Requirements
In the Department of Fire & EMS, this position functions as the organization?s mid-level supervisor, with responsibility for both the direction and delivery of fire and EMS response related services, as well as to contribute to the organization?s comprehensive, all-hazards emergency management role in the community. This involves having command of the necessary leadership and management toolkit to serve as a supervisor, as well as the technical knowledge, decision making and physical abilities to directly engage in both the provision and oversight of fire suppression, emergency medical services, specialized rescue, hazardous material response, community risk reduction activities, pre-incident planning, physical fitness activities and training.
This position serves under the direction of a Battalion Chief or other designated supervisor and performs both field and administrative duties, based on assignment in the organization. This includes the oversight, management, scheduling, planning, coordination and direction of day-to-day activities and operations of an assigned company or organizational focus area within the Department of Fire & EMS. With a focus on our pursuit of a high-performance, combination Fire & EMS system, individuals in this position must have the ability to interact effectively with both their career and volunteer response colleagues, as well as provide excellent customer service and care for the residents and visitors of Botetourt County.
This position is essential. Personnel occupying this position may be scheduled to work regardless of weather conditions and/or when general county offices are closed. Based on assignment, individuals in this position may be assigned to rotating operational shifts or to an administrative schedule. Persons in this position will encounter sensitive information in the performance of their duties and are expected to maintain that information confidentially.
