The City of Georgetown is recruiting to establish an eligibility list for the Civil Service position of Firefighter. Duties will include responding to all fires, emergency medical and rescues & recovery alarms; sustaining high level of preparedness for emergencies; maintaining vehicles & equipment for fire suppression/prevention and for rescue & recovery. Subject to callback for emergencies, special training and/or other administrative reason.
The City of Georgetown Firefighter/Paramedics truly care about the community they protect and serve in many ways including; providing emergency medical services, fighting fires, responding to hazardous materials spills, performing on specialty response teams (Dive, Rope, Swift Water, Etc.), providing education to the public, investigating fires and enforcing code. Professional Firefighter/Paramedics work as a team to protect life and property during all types of emergencies.
We have immediate plans to hire Firefighter-Paramedic, Paramedic, and/or Firefighter EMT-B. Candidates that have a strong desire to serve the community with professionalism, compassion, and dedication are highly encouraged to apply.
Firefighter EMT-B candidates must be certified as a basic Firefighter through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic through the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or National Registry at the time of written examination. Out-of-state applicants must obtain reciprocity through TCFP and TDSHS. Applicants must provide TCFP and TDSHS certifications prior to job offer. Candidates hired under this preference must sign a pre-employment agreement to obtain paramedic certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services at a time that is convenient for the City and/or for the purposes of improving operational services. The location and duration of the paramedic program shall be stipulated at the convenience of the City.
Firefighter Paramedic candidates must be certified as a Firefighter through TCFP and Certified or licensed Paramedic through TDSHS or National registry at time of written examination. Out-of-state applicants must obtain reciprocity through TCFP and TDSHS. Applicants must provide TCFP and TDSHS certifications prior to job offer.
Paramedic (only) candidates must be a Certified or licensed Paramedic through TDSHS or National registry at time of written examination. Out-of-state applicants must obtain reciprocity through TDSHS. Applicants must provide TDSHS certification prior to job offer. Candidates hired under this preference will obtain their firefighter certification through TCFP, at a time that is convenient for the City.
Candidates possessing both a basic Firefighter certification and Paramedic certification will receive first preference, followed by Paramedic and then Firefighter EMT-B.

The City of Georgetown Fire Department is providing interested candidates with the option to participate in one (1) of two (2) written exam test date options for an upcoming Firefighter/Paramedic Entry Exam. Candidates can choose to participate in a written exam on June 5, 2021 or June 12, 2021. Interested candidates may only participate in one (1) of the available written exams.
Applications will be accepted online until 5:00 PM on Monday, May 31, 2021.
Candidates are highly encouraged to participate in orientations and timed practices of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) portion of the exam. Orientation and Practices will take place at the Fire Training Ground behind Georgetown Fire Station 5 located at 3600 D.B. Wood Rd., Georgetown TX 78626.
Successful completion of a timed practice will be counted as successful completion of the CPAT portion of the testing process and candidates will not have to retake the test on June 12, 2021. Failure of a timed practice will not count against participating candidates. Candidates who have passed a CPAT six months prior to the written test shall be exempt from having to take the CPAT as long as proof is provided from the original testing agency or department.

Civil Service Exam/CPAT Final ? Saturday, June 12, 2021, 9:00 AM - until exam completed.
*Candidates that successfully complete a timed practice will not have to participate in the CPAT final on June 12, 2021.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must also:
Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and under forty-five (45) years of age at time of hire.
Be legally eligible to work within the United States.
Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have an equivalency certificate.
Be of good moral character.
Achieve a minimum passing score of seventy (70) percent on the written examination.
Successfully complete the physical ability test.
Pass a background investigation.
Pass oral interviews.
Successfully complete a polygraph examination (if required)
Successfully complete a post-job offer drug screen, psychological examination, medical examination.
Have a valid Texas driver`s license at the date of hire.
The written examinations will occur on Saturday, June 5, 2021 @ 9:00 a.m. and Saturday, June 12, 2021 @ 9:00 a.m.
The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021. (A practice CPAT will be available on May 22, 2021, as well as following the written exam on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Candidates who successfully completed a time practiced do not need to take the CPAT on June 12, 2021.

Completed Personal History Statements are due immediately following successful completion of the written examination. Packets must include all requested forms and any required notarization must be completed prior to submittal.

Failure to return the completed packet along with required documents following the written exam will disqualify you as a candidate.
For applicants who wish to have military credit of five (5) points added to a passing test score of 70% or better, you must provide a copy of military discharge papers (DD214), member 4 copy, showing 1.) Honorable Discharge and 2.) A minimum of 180 total days of active military service.
In order to receive credit on the day of the exam you must bring a copy of your DD214 to the written examination and submit it to a City representative at check-in.
Salary Information
Candidates hired that do not possess a paramedic certification will have a starting salary of $52,922. Upon completion of their paramedic program and receipt of Paramedic certification or license, candidates will be eligible for the Paramedic credentialing pay in the amount of $5,400/year.
Candidates hired that possess a paramedic certification will have a starting salary of $57,930 (includes Paramedic Credentialing pay in the amount of $5,400/year).
