The Valley Center Fire Protection District is recruiting and testing to establish a list of qualified candidates for the position of Fire Engineer.
The Valley Center Fire Protection District is 87 square miles with a population of approximately 20,000. The District is a rural suburban area located in North San Diego County California. The District contains heavy wildland urban interface areas with rugged terrain consisting of a main valley floor with hillsides and steep canyons. The fire department responds to 1,800 calls for service a year. The District is governed by a 5 member Board of Directors elected at large from the community.
Currently, Fire and Emergency Services are provided by six full time Captains, six full time Engineers and twenty-four (24) part-time Firefighters. Paramedic Services are provided through a Public-Private Partnership with Mercy Ambulance. Administrative and Prevention Services are provided by a Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, Accountant and an Administrative Assistant employed by the District.
The Valley Center Fire Protection District operates from two Fire Stations strategically located with two Type 1 ALS Engines, 1 ALS Ambulance, 1 ALS Type 6, Rescue Squad and 1 Duty Chief.
When employed, the Fire Engineer, at the direction of a Fire Captain, will perform all of the duties of a Fire Engineer, Firefighter, EMT or Paramedic. The Fire Engineer will operate vehicles, apparatus and equipment in a safe and professional manner, provide program and project management, participate in life safety inspections, deliver public education, and provide instruction and mentorship to Firefighters, EMTs or Paramedics.
Rate of Pay: 46,464 to 49,368 Annually Health Care Stipend: $4,800 Annually Holiday Pay: 13 holidays paid at 8 hours Sick Leave: 48 hours per year
Vacation: 96 hours per year based on length of service with the District
Uniforms: Provided by the District
Deferred Compensation Program: VCFPD 457b program available
Employment Status: Full-time; FLSA non-exempt, 1 year probationary period
