Requirements

The Big Bear Fire Department is recruiting for the classification of Fire Fighter/Paramedic. Under the direction of a Company Officer, the Fire Fighter/Paramedic will respond to medical aids, rescues, fires, and other emergency and non-emergency incidents as required. Fire Fighter/Paramedics are expected to participate in the daily fire station activities and attend regular and special training sessions. Successful candidates shall be considered ?at will? and probationary throughout the first year of their employment.

Salary and Benefits:
The Fire Fighter/Paramedic salary begins at $70,803 per year along with fully covered health, vision, and dental insurance for the employee and their dependents. Also included is $100,000 of life insurance and $100,000 of AD&D insurance. Satisfactory evaluations and successful completion of the in-house training program will allow the Fire Fighter/Paramedic to advance a step a year, up to $86,052 per year.

Minimum Requirements for Fire Fighter/Paramedic:
 Must submit a Big Bear Fire Department application
 Must provide proof of age of at least 18 years or older
 Must provide a copy of a high school diploma (or equivalent)
 Must provide, possess, and maintain a valid Class ?C? State of California Driver License
 Must provide, possess, and maintain State of California Paramedic licensure at time of application. ICEMA accreditation at time of appointment.
 Must provide, possess, and maintain American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Provider card
 Must provide, possess, and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support card (ACLS)
 Must provide proof of a successfully passed timed CPAT or Biddle Test within the last twelve (12) months
 California State Fire Marshal Level I Fire Fighter Academy OR California State Fire Fighter 1 Certification are required at time of appointment. Job Description Overview:
 Must be able to perform during high stress situations.
 Must be able to hear within the normal audio range, without correction.
 Must possess the strength and stamina sufficient to lift and carry equipment and individuals up to 100 pounds in weight. Must be able to wear a self- contained breathing apparatus.
 Vision must be correctible to 20/20. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions. See job description for complete details.

Applications and required certifications are to be submitted, time and date stamped, to Jamie Gustason no later than 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

Only complete applications including proof of completion of all minimum requirements will be invited to the written testing.

Applications must contain copies of certifications prior to application deadline. Any applications received missing copies of documents listed under minimum requirements WILL NOT be invited to participate in the written testing.

Suggested References for the written test: EMT-B/EMT-P publications that meet the current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician standards (NREMT).

Oral Test Date ? Wednesday, April 18, 2018, after written test, and, if needed, Thursday, April 19, 2018.
Paramedic Skills Lab - Monday, April 23, 2018, and if needed, Sunday, April 22, 2018 - Applicants who pass the written test with 70% or better and pass the oral test will participate in the Paramedic Skills Lab.
