This position is a first-level worker on a hand crew or engine crew. The incumbent will follow appropriate work and safety practices at wildland fires and other emergencies; and assist in fuel mitigation projects and prescribed fire activities.
A valid driver license is required.
Must be FFT1 qualified according to National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) 310-1 standards or be able to obtain qualification within a yearing to NWCG standards.
NCRC: If you possess a National Career Readiness Certificate, please submit the certificate with your application. For more information on how to acquire a National Career Readiness Certificate contact a South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation Local Office. An NCRC is not necessary to be considered.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
One to two (1 - 2) years of wildland fire experience and certification as a FFT2 according to NWCG PMS310-1 standards are preferred.
wildland fire behavior and suppression tactics;
maintenance and operation of wildland fire tools and equipment.
safely and effectively work in dangerous and harsh environments.
work in rough terrain and dangerous conditions;
maintain required physical fitness standards according to NWCG standards.
