THE FIRE DISTRICT: The Carpinteria?Summerland Fire Protection District is an independent Special District located 80 miles north of Los Angeles, California. Situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Los Padres National Forest, the District serves the more than 23,000 residents living in the City of Carpinteria and the unincorporated community of Summerland, CA. The Fire District operates out of two fire stations, employs 34 career members, and has an annual operating budget of over $10 million. In 2020, the Fire District responded to more than 2000 alarms.

? Respond to fires, medical emergencies, auto accidents and other emergency and non- emergency calls for service.
? Perform rescue operations by moving and carrying heavy objects, equipment and materials.
? Extinguish vegetation fires, construct fire line, and perform structure defense in the wildland-urban interface.
? Respond to medical emergencies and treat injuries using BLS and ALS techniques
? Inspect commercial and residential occupancies for fire hazards.
? Conduct station tours, demonstrate fire equipment, and present fire education programs to the public.
? Attend fire-related courses, seminars, and other training.
? Drive and operate emergency vehicles.

ABILITY TO:
? Learn firefighting methods, apparatus and equipment operation, emergency medical procedures, and rescue operations.
? Understand and apply technical information regarding hazardous chemicals and gases, and fire prevention rules and regulations.
? Learn to analyze fire and emergency situations quickly and accurately and take appropriate action; learn local geography, roads and water supply systems.
? Learn and follow departmental rules, regulations and policies; understand and follow oral and written directions especially during emergencies.
? Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
? Prepare written and electronic reports.
? Maintain good physical condition.
? Safely operate fire engines and other rescue vehicles.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Minimum Qualifications:
? High School graduate or GED.
? California Class ?C ?Driver?s License and insurable as a driver with the District. ? California State Firefighter-1, academy certificate, or transcripts.
? Valid California Paramedic License and be eligible for accreditation to practice within the County of Santa Barbara after the completion of recruit training academy.
? CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
? CPAT or Biddle dated within 6 months of application deadline.

Preferred Qualifications:
? Wildland firefighting experience.
? Ocean or water rescue experience.
? California State Fire Marshal Driver Operator 1A and 1B.
? California State Fire Marshal Firefighter II certificate.
? Ocean rescue or swift water rescue certification.
? Low Angle Rope Rescue Operational or Rescue Systems 1 certification.
? Associate or Bachelor?s degree.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include an application review, resume review, medical skills assessment, entry-level interview and Fire Chief interview. The final selection for the position will be made by the Fire Chief. Selected candidates must pass a background check, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and show proof of full Covid vaccination status before beginning a 10-12 week entry-level recruit academy.
