Introduction
The City of Greenacres offers:

Minimum Salary: $53,902.07 annually/$21.60 hourly
Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Greenacres [FL]. Applicants will remain in the City`s active file for a period of one (1) year. The Department will use the list to fill any future openings. The salary indicated for this position corresponds with a 48 hour average duty week.

The minimum requirements for employment as a Firefighter/EMT are as follows:

Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Must have graduated from an accredited high school, or have obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver`s license.
Must reside in one of the following counties: Broward, Glades, Hendry, Martin, Miami-Dade, Okeechobee, Palm Beach or St. Lucie.
Must submit to Level II fingerprinting with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and PBSO upon offer of employment.
Must be of good moral character.
Must submit to a post offer psychological, CVSA, and physical examination with drug screen. The offer of employment will be conditioned on the results of testing and/or examinations.
All Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians serve a one (1) year probationary period.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Position Summary: Protects life and property through fire prevention and suppression, basic life support and rescue actions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all inclusive and will vary with assignments.)

Responds to emergency and non-emergency medical calls for service.
Responds to fire related calls for service.
Provides emergency medical treatment to injured persons using modern EMS techniques.
Engages in the suppression of fire activity, as directed.
Engages in the operation of extrication and immobilization equipment.
Engages in the delivery and proper positioning of emergency vehicles and fire apparatus to scenes.
Participates in rescue operations by carrying individuals from danger.
Engages in the transporting of patients to area hospitals.
Performs maintenance tests on medical and fire equipment, including vehicles, to assure they?re functioning properly.
Performs blood pressure evaluations.
Participates in fire training to maintain an acceptable level of proficiency.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of firefighting to include fire rescue, evacuation, exposures, confinement, extinguishment, radio communications, and ventilation.
Fire prevention techniques including detection of common fire hazards.
Principles and practices of emergency medical procedures and skill in their application.
Geography of the response areas, including water distribution.
Common basic medical prefixes and suffixes.
Ability to:
React quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Perform maintenance tests on fire equipment.
Understand basics of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and how it pertains during routine and emergency situations.
Maintain clear, concise, and accurate records.
Interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor.
Maintain high standards for professional and ethical conduct.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public agencies, vendors and the general public.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Follow safety rules and regulations of the Department and the City.
Support the Department`s and City`s Mission, Values and Goals.
Education & Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a State issued G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.
Possess and maintains a valid State of Florida Class E driver`s license.
Must Possess and maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic in the State of Florida.
Possess and maintain State of Florida Certification for Firefighter II.
Possess and maintain a valid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card from American Red Cross or American Heart Association at the Health Care Provider level.
Documentation of successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC), or reasonable equivalent as approved by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
