Requirements

Summary: Responds to emergency situations where life, property, or the environment is at risk, including fire prevention and control, emergency medical service, search and rescue, hazardous material response, disaster management, and other assignments at the discretion of the ranking officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Respond to fire alarms and other calls for assistance; assess and extinguish fires; provide emergency medical service to ill and injured; transport ill and injured to medical facility; prepare written incident reports; clean and maintain station and equipment; adhere to all required safety policies and procedures; participate in training and maintain certifications as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Per state statute, must be at least 21 years of age but less than 36 years of age and qualify for 1977 PERF.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Indiana Firefighter I/II certification
Indiana EMT-Paramedic

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to meet physical demands as assessed through pre-employment PERF physical/psychological exam and meet requirements of the 1977 State of Indiana Police & Firefighters Pension Fund.
Must hold a current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card (no greater than 1 year old) at the time of conditional offer of employment.

Licensing and Regulation:
Valid Indiana driver?s license
Indiana Firefighter I/II certification
Indiana EMT-Paramedic
Must maintain Indiana Paramedic certification for the full term of employment
Meet all Franciscan Health- Crown Point EMS System or current departmental medical direction requirements and remain in good standing for term of employment.

Physical Demands:
Lift/carry 70 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, balancing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and driving.

Work Environment/Schedule:
On duty 24 hours/off duty 48 hours; prolonged exposure to all weather conditions, temperature extremes, and possible hazardous substances and environmental conditions.
