Summary:
Under the supervision of the Fire Captains and Administrative staff, the trainee begins to learn all aspects of the Alexander City Fire Department’s suppression operation. As full-time openings occur, these positions are filled from the part-time pool of certified Fire and EMT trainees.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist firefighters with routine safety checks of gear and equipment
- Helps wash and disinfect fire trucks and ambulances
- Assists with flushing of fire hydrants
- Rides with certified personnel on calls
- Other tasks as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must pass a pre-employment competency test
- Must be able to pass Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
- Shall complete the Firefighter I Course with one year of employment
- Must attain a State EMT Basic license and retain per State regulation
- Must have a driving record suitable for insurability.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with superiors, co-workers, and the public.
- Must be professional in all aspects of this position, whether in the field, at a health care facility, or at the station
- Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, lifting, and bending).
