The Firefighter/EMT preserves the lives and property of the citizens of the City of Riverside by controlling and extinguishing fires, engaging in search and rescue, and responding to medical emergencies. The Department is an ALS non-transport EMS provider and contracts its ambulance transports.
Primary responsibilities of the Firefighter/EMT include performing search and rescue; extinguishing fires with an ultra high pressure pump; responding to calls for service from a rescue pumper; responding to specialty calls such as rope, water & ice rescue, Hazmat, & extrication from vehicles; performing building inspections, truck checks, & station cleaning; and participating in public relations opportunities such as National Night Out, special events, station tours, & car seat installation.
Firefighters are provided with the best training which includes a vigorous in-house training program. Outside training includes winter and summer fire schools and much more. Specialized training includes technical rescues, ice rescues, swift water rescues, and boat operations.
Must be 19 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and be a U.S. citizen. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a clean criminal record and driving history. Must be certified in Firefighter 1 & 2, and HAZMAT Operations. Must have an EMT license and a current CPAT & FSEE. |
EMT's will be required to attend paramedic school. The department provides a 100% reimbursement to on-staff FF/EMT's to attend paramedic school.
