The mission of the Fire Department is “to protect lives, property and the environment, improving the quality of life and safety of the community.” The Department’s core services are focused on maintaining a Citywide presence to effectively respond to fire, medical, beach, and waterway emergencies. The Fire Department provides effective prevention, education, and preparedness services to the community and has four bureaus: Operations, Fire Prevention, Support Services, and Administration. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Skill to safely and effectively operate an emergency vehicle;
Ability to handle a high volume of emergency calls with tact and good judgment;
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, including moving and transporting patients;
Willingness to work any shift assignment including weekends, holidays, overtime, and 12-hour or 24-hour shifts.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working for a government agency;
Bilingual in Spanish, Khmer, and/or Tagalog
Completion of FEMA’s National Institute of Management Systems ICS 100 and/or ICS/IS 700.
